Privacy Policy

Good Minded (“we,” “us,” “our”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in O’Fallon, Illinois. We care about your privacy and we keep this simple: we only collect what we need, we use it to help you and to run our mission, and we don’t sell your information. This policy explains what we collect on goodminded.org, why, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

Information you give us. When you contact us or fill out a form on our site — for example to start a project, apply for free help for your nonprofit, ask for support, volunteer, partner, or sign up for our newsletter — we collect what you choose to send, which may include your name, email address, organization, location (city), your nonprofit’s status, and the details of your message or request.

Donations. If you donate, your payment is processed by our donation partner, Givebutter. Your card details are handled by Givebutter and their payment processors — we do not see or store your full payment information. We do receive donation records (such as your name, email, and amount) so we can thank you, send receipts, and keep the records a nonprofit is required to keep. See Givebutter’s own privacy policy for how they handle your data.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our web host (SiteGround) records basic technical information — such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you visit — in server logs to keep the site secure and running. We do not use Google Analytics or any third-party advertising or cross-site tracking tools, so we’re not building a profile of you or following you around the web.

Cookies

We only use cookies that are necessary for the site to work — for example, to keep the site secure and remember your preferences. Because we don’t use advertising or tracking cookies, there’s nothing here to opt into or out of, and no consent banner to click through. You can still control or delete cookies through your browser settings; some features may not work as well if you disable them.

How we use your information

We use the information above to:

  • respond to your message and provide the service, help, or support you asked for;
  • review nonprofit applications and decide how we can help;
  • process and acknowledge donations, and issue receipts;
  • send you our newsletter if you asked to receive it (you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email);
  • keep the site secure, understand how it’s used, and improve it; and
  • meet our legal, tax, and record-keeping obligations as a nonprofit.

We do not sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for anyone else’s advertising.

Who we share it with

We share information only with the service providers that help us run Good Minded, and only as needed:

  • SiteGround, our website host, which stores the site and its data;
  • MailPoet, the newsletter tool that runs inside our own WordPress site, if you subscribe (your email stays within our site rather than a separate marketing company);
  • Givebutter, if you donate; and
  • professional advisors, or authorities, where the law requires it or to protect people’s safety and our legal rights.

Each of these handles your data under its own privacy terms. We don’t share your information with anyone else without your consent.

How long we keep it

We keep your information only as long as we need it for the purpose you gave it to us, and as long as the law requires (for example, donation and tax records must be kept for a set period). When we no longer need it, we delete or anonymize it.

Your choices and rights

You can:

  • ask what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it;
  • unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time; and
  • ask us not to use your information in a particular way.

To make any of these requests, just email alex@goodminded.org and we’ll take care of it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under your local privacy laws; we’re happy to honor them — just ask.

Children’s privacy

Our site is meant for adults and is not directed to children. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, please contact us and we’ll remove it.

Links to other sites

Our site links to our own products and to third parties (for example, Givebutter). Once you leave goodminded.org, this policy no longer applies — please review the privacy policy of any site you visit.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, and we rely on our service providers to do the same. No method of transmission over the internet is ever completely secure, but we work to keep your data safe.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “last updated” date above, and we’ll note significant changes on this page.
